Who we are

Dr Elisa Nédélec

northumbria university

Elisa is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Northumbria University, specialising in female health and neuromuscular function. Her current research explores how hormonal fluctuations during the menstrual cycle and hormonal contraceptive use influence symptom severity in females with multiple sclerosis (MS), aiming to improve symptom management and quality of life.

With a background in physiotherapy and a PhD in female exercise physiology, she is passionate about translating research into practical strategies that support women’s health across clinical and athletic populations.

dr paul ansdell

northumbria university

Paul is an Associate Professor at Northumbria University whose research focuses on how the brain and spinal cord control movement.

His group’s work has previously demonstrated how the menstrual cycle, hormonal contraceptives, as well as the menopause and hormone replacement therapy all alter the ability of the nervous system to produce and control muscle contractions. He has been at Northumbria University since 2016, and prior to this was at the University of Brighton.
